Unboxing is the one moment a customer gives your brand undivided attention. They are not scrolling, not comparing tabs, not half-listening — they are looking at the thing they bought. What you put in that moment is worth more per unit than almost anything else you print, which is the argument for spending a little more on the card that lands in it.
18pt board with full lamination has real weight and a surface that registers instantly in the fingers. Silk matte in particular reads as premium in a way that is difficult to articulate and impossible to miss — it is the finish luxury packaging uses precisely because it feels considered. Gloss makes photography and saturated colour land hard if your brand is louder than it is quiet.
The most effective cards in this category say very little. A thank-you in large type. A single line about why the thing was made. A name. Restraint reads expensive, and the stock is already doing the work of signalling that you cared. Save the discount code and the QR for the back, or for a second, cheaper card.
